When you open a 401(k) plan with Guideline, you may be eligible for certain promotional discounts. Here are FAQs to help you understand how these discounts work.
How do I know if I’m eligible for a discount?
Guideline periodically offers discounts on its services. Details of current promotions can be found on the Guideline website. Additionally, some payroll providers who have partnered with Guideline may offer exclusive discounts to their clients. These discounts, if available, will be displayed on a partner page within your payroll provider’s website.
Where will I see that a discount has been applied?
When you open a 401(k) plan with Guideline, you’ll need to complete a questionnaire to set up your plan and select your options. Within this plan setup process, you’ll also review the fees and pricing.
If you’re eligible for a discount, the promotion will be automatically applied within the Review pricing page. You will also see $0/month for any fees that are waived.¹

How do discounts work for billing?
Billing begins the month following your plan’s start date and will be sent to you on the first of every month. You are charged retroactively, so your February invoice will reflect the charges for January, your March invoice will reflect the charges for February, and so on.
During the time the discounts are active, no funds will be pulled for the waived fees.
Here’s an example of how a three-month employer discount would apply for billing:
Your plan’s start date is January 1. On February 1, March 1, and April 1, you will receive your invoices, which will outline any fees that are waived. You will not be charged for applicable fees during this time.
Since the discount expires after three months, you will see the charges due on the May 1 invoice. The credit card or bank account on file for your account will then be charged the applicable amount for employer fees around the 5th of that month.²
