What is IRS tax Form 1099-R?
Form 1099-R is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) document that reports distributions (withdrawals) from retirement accounts, such as 401(k)s and IRAs.
If you took any distributions, the form will include:
The distribution amount(s)
Whether you had income tax withheld from those distributions
Specific information about the type of distribution
Please note, you will not receive a 1099-R if you took a 401(k) loan (unless the loan was "deemed distributed").
When will I receive tax Form 1099-R?
You will receive a mailed copy of your Form 1099-R by January 31 of the year after you took the distribution from the custodian who holds your Guideline retirement funds, Benefit Trust Company (BTC). You will use this form when filing your taxes for that year. BTC must also provide the information reported on your 1099-R to the IRS.
Where to find your 1099-R tax form with Guideline
Guideline will provide a PDF version of your Form 1099-R approximately 4-6 weeks after the custodian mails the form.
Once available, you will be able to view and download the PDF tax form within your dashboard by following the instructions below.
Note, if you did not take a distribution from your retirement account, you will not receive a 1099-R.
