What are my 401(k) fees?

We’re transparent about the fees associated with your account. Here’s what you can expect.

All 401(k) participants are charged an annual account fee based on assets under management by Gusto Investment Services, LLC.¹ The annual account fee charged to you is typically between 0.15% and 0.35%, depending on the pricing plan chosen by your employer and when the plan was established.

You can learn more about how your account fee is calculated here.

Additionally, the mutual funds available within your portfolio also charge fees, known as an expense ratio, which is expressed as a percentage of fund assets. The expense ratio is not charged by Gusto or its affiliates, but instead by the manager that operates the fund.

Gusto Investment Services carefully selects no-load mutual funds that are passively managed in an effort to offer low management fees while delivering quality investment management. Our managed portfolios have blended expense ratios ranging from 0.058% to 0.061% of assets under management.²

Expense ratios are determined by the fund's manager and factored into the value of the fund, so you will not see a transaction in your account for these charges. The expense ratio is disclosed in each fund’s prospectus and can also be found in Gusto Investment Services' fund lineup here.

Fees you can expect if you leave your employer

Following termination of employment, Gusto Retirement will charge you a $4 monthly fee after an initial 90-day grace period, or after the end of the blackout period if your 401(k) plan was recently transferred to Gusto. This cost is in addition to the standard annual account fee and fund expense ratios associated with your account.

To learn more about fees, please see the Terms of Service and Gusto Investment Services' ADV 2A Brochure.

Fees you can expect if you disburse money: rollover, in-service distribution, or termination disbursement

Depending on your plan's terms, you may be charged a $50 fee for in-service distributions, rollovers, or withdrawals taken after your employment with the sponsoring employer has ended. You may also be charged a $25 fee on withdrawals for residual dividends.

Pricing applicable as of February 23, 2026. Plan costs above may vary from legacy pricing depending on when a plan was initiated.
